Covid Policy

 The following advice has been adapted for Overstrand Bowls Club from the above mentioned document.

All members are welcome back to the club from 7th July. There are some restrictions in line with government advice and social distancing requirements. Please adhere to the guidelines for the safety of yourselves and others.

Do not come to the club if you are experiencing any coronavirus (Covid-19) symptoms, a cough or high temperature. Follow the advice about self-isolation if you or someone in your household is in a vulnerable group.

Playing arrangements – Roll ups

1     Only current members may attend.

2     Allocation of lanes will be on a first come first served basis.

3     Only play on alternate rinks i.e. 1, 3, 5 or 2, 4. The lanes and direction of play will vary on a weekly basis as determined by the green keeper.  

Playing Formats

1     Up to six individuals from different households may play on a single          rink. Singles play, pairs play and triples play are all permitted.

2     Social distancing rules must be strictly adhered to; you must remain at least the Government recommended distance apart from other bowlers who are not part of your household at all times.

3     A maximum of 18 players in total may be on the green at any one time 

Clubhouse and Facilities

1     The clubhouse is closed until further notice.

2     Access to the toilets is permitted both ladies and gents toilet 

3     Members should use the sanitiser provided for cleaning hands and any surfaces or equipment they may come into contact with. 

4     Spectators are welcome but must be members and MUST adhere to        the latest government guidelines on social distancing at all times. 


1     You must bring your own bowls.

2     A mat and  jack will be assigned to the team.

3     No other equipment is to be used and the equipment shed is not to be


Independent play

Members not wishing to participate in club roll ups may visit the club at times when the green is not in use to play in a smaller group.  Mats, jacks and sanitiser equipment will be left at the rear of the equipment shed – please return after play.  The club house and toilets will remain closed at this time.

Please read the guidance notes displayed on the notice board before you commence play.

In Advance

1     Do not come to the club if you are experiencing any coronavirus (Covid-19) or flu like symptoms a cold or high temperature.  Follow the advice about self isolation if you or someone in your household is in one of the vulnerable groups.  

2     Dress appropriately before you arrive at the club to avoid the need to        change clothes – change shoes immediately before and after your game. Place bags in a safe place, where they will not be a trip hazard to yourself or others.

3     Travel to the green on your own or with members of your own household only – do not offer a lift to, or accept a lift from, anyone outside your household.

On Arrival

1     Copy of the guidance notes will be available at the club to read for those without email access.

Personal Care

 1     Whilst they may be open please avoid using toilets at the club

2     Clean anything you touch before and after use.

3     Take any drink you might need with you.

4     Sanitise keys and door handles before and after use.

Playing The Game

1     You may only take part in bowls play by yourself, or with members of your household or with no more than five other people outside of your household on the same lane, as long as you are able to maintain social distancing.

2     Do not shake hands before, during or after the game.

3     Do not “high-five” or “hug” other players to celebrate shots or a win.

4     If scoring:

      a      Social distancing rules must be adhered to at all times;

      b      Do not touch your opponents’ bowls with your hands;

      c      Avoid measuring for shot/s wherever possible.

When You Leave

1     When you have finished playing, change your shoes and leave the club

immediately – ensuring that you have sanitised all equipment used and that the club is secure if you are the last to leave.
